Recently I was honored to receive this picture and conversation about a Guild following the art of the Crown Control system. I started out with practice groups that were guilds. Why a guild in this day and age? I’ll tell you. Guilds were and are associations of artisans or merchants who control the practice of their craft in a particular town or geography. The earliest types of guilds were formed as confraternities of tradesmen. They were organized in a manner something between a professional association, trade union, a cartel, and a secret society. This is the vehicle that many of us have used to share knowledge and develop skills with like minded. May this post inspire you to reach out to your tribe.
Guilds royal or not wield power and authority. They have a mission (spoken and unspoken). Guilds define their function and direction through their mission and inspire culture.
What qualities and skills allow one to be a member (and what disqualifies you ). How one may effect change and better the World. The Guilds mission statement should be a road map to practices and expectations. Obligations are personal but also institutionally are set. What the World gets, what the institution gets, what the individual gets is all laid out so that potential paths can be planned for, measured, and contextually explored as distinct. All the while respecting and encouraging the intimate and experimental natural of our work so that it may continue to develop alongside us.
